Klay Thompson took part in his first full practice since tearing his ACL 470 days ago during game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals.

Steve Kerr called Thompson's return a "good first step."

"This is the first practice coming off an ACL injury and a year and a half absence so I didn't expect him to be in top shape, in top form, and he was not, but he moved well and it's a good first step," said Kerr.

Kerr added that he hopes Thompson will be able to participate when the Warriors resume 5-on-5 scrimmages.

"It kind of depends how he reacts to today and what Rick [Celebrini] says and what Klay says. Just kind of have to take it step by step. So we'll kind of see where he is tomorrow and make a decision accordingly."

Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are both excused from the Golden State Warriors' minicamp, according to Steve Kerr.

The Warriors' first practice took place on Wednesday.

"First of all, I want to make clear that this is a voluntary camp. And so [GM] Bob [Myers] and I have both been in touch with Steph and Draymond and we are well aware of their circumstances. And so they both have important family issues to attend to and so they have excused absences," said Kerr.

Klay Thompson and Eric Paschall are expected to join the group later this week, with Kerr adding that "Klay looks great."

Kerr described being able to practice again as a "relief" for the team. 

"For our team, it was really a relief to be out on the floor playing basketball again together. Competing, laughing, enjoying ourselves. The guys looked great. There was a lot of good energy and they had a lot of fun out there today. First time, really, that any of them have had a chance to play real basketball, other than just kind of one-on-one stuff, in a long time. So great to see them out there."

The Golden State Warriors have hired Shaun Livingston as Director, Players Affairs and Engagement.

Livingston was waived by the Warriors last offseason as they executed a complicated sign-and-trade for D'Angelo Russell and he subsequently retired.

Livingston becomes the highest-ranking Black person in the front office of the Warriors since Mitch Richmond in 2008.

Golden State's brain trust on the basketball side of the front office is Bob Myers, Kirk Lacob, Larry Harris and Mike Dunleavy Jr. The next tier consists of Kent Lacob, Jonnie West, Nick U'Ren and Pabail Sidhu. 

Leandro Barbosa has announced his retirement and will join the Golden State Warriors as Player Mentor Coach.

Barbosa spent two seasons with the Warriors from 2014-16, helping the franchise capture its first NBA title in 40 years during his first season with the club (2014-15) and win an NBA-record 73 regular season games the following year in 2015-16.

The Golden State Warriors are believed to prefer to draft a wing with the No. 2 pick, sources from multiple front offices tell Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer.

"Everything is on the table for the Warriors with this pick," writes O'Connor. "They could stay put, trade down, or move entirely out."
