Former Portland Trail Blazer Cliff Robinson has passed away at age 53.

Robinson played 19 seasons in the NBA with the Blazers, Suns, Pistons, Warriors, and Nets.

Robinson, who played in the 1994 All-Star Game, averaged 14.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in 1,380 career games.

"He was our first great player. He came from a difficult background in Buffalo, I watched him evolve as a man. ... He was a good man, had a great career, and was instrumental in a lot of the great things that happened at UConn," said Jim Calhoun.

Warriors' Financial Edge Could Be Even Bigger In 20-21

Aug 21, 2020 2:08 PM

The gate receipts for the Golden State Warriors grew exponentially during their five-year run reaching The Finals before relocating to Chase Center in San Francisco for the 19-20 season from $77 million in 14-15 to $178 million in 19-20. While they are theoretically more adversely impacted by not having fans in the arena, the value of their newly completed venue gives them leverage to borrow against it.

"Most teams make between 30 and about 45 percent of their revenue from their arenas," said Brian Windhorst on his podcast. "Not only ticket sales, but beer sales and suites and also naming rights. Not just naming rights on the building, but naming rights on clubs. The Warriors make 80 percent of their revenue that way. Partially because their arena is brand new and has all that money out there. The other thing, for a large television market like San Francisco, they do not have a world class local television deal. They don't have a television deal like the Knicks or Lakers do.

"Having said that: two things here. Number one, they now know the NBA is very determined to play games with fans, at least some fans in the building. So that's a relief to them. Number two, Joe Lacob their owner, his doctorate or master's degree is in epidemiology. He's very in tune with the advancements in this. He is confident that he will be able to get fans into the arena.

"But here's the most important part: the Warriors are just different when it comes to finances. Joe Lacob has established an option of borrowing $250 million against the ownership in the arena. They have opened up the possibility of a credit line of $250 million. I don't even necessarily think it's the Warriors need the money. I don't think they're struggling to make their payments because as far as I know, they haven't laid anybody off."

Windhorst cited how other franchises, using the Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns as examples, couldn't borrow that kind of money against their building.

"There's so much faith in (the Warriors' finances) that they've opened up this $250 million credit line. So knowing the Warriors and knowing Joe Lacob the way they do, I think they're more likely to say, 'Listen, we can tap this credit line. This is another advantage.'"

Windhorst went on to suggest the Warriors could make a trade to add salary if they believe it will put them over the top due to the backstop of their unique credit line.

Warriors To Use No. 2 Overall Pick In Trade Talks

Aug 20, 2020 8:59 PM

The Golden State Warriors will pursue trade scenarios with the No. 2 overall pick, Bob Myers tells ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Warriors are attempting to maximize their title window and a trade of the pick would likely help more than a young player.

NBA, NBPA Agree To Voluntary Group Workouts In Campus Settings For Teams Not In Restart

Aug 18, 2020 8:38 PM

The NBA and NBPA have reached agreement for the eight teams not involved in the restart in Orlando to conduct voluntary group workouts while residing in campus settings.

There had been discussions about the teams participating in a second bubble with team workouts and scrimmages, but the union had resisted that concept.

The Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks were not invited to participate int he league's restart in Orlando.

The program is scheduled to take place between Sept. 14 and Oct. 6.

Stephen Curry To Represent Warriors At Virtual Lottery

Aug 18, 2020 11:17 AM

Stephen Curry will represent the Golden State Warriors at the NBA's virtual lottery on Thursday.

The Warriors were last in the lottery in 2012 when they retained their pick and selected Harrison Barnes.

The Warriors won the lottery in 1995 when they moved up four slots and drafted Joe Smith. Golden State also moved up four spots in 1993 to No. 3 when they traded the draft rights to Penny Hardaway and three future draft picks to the Orlando Magic for Chris Webber.

Eight Non-Restart Teams Discuss In-Market Bubble Program In September

Aug 14, 2020 1:01 PM

The eight teams excluded from the NBA's restart in Orlando continue to discuss with the league office and NBPA how they can conduct workouts or scrimmages, sources tell ESPN.

The most likely outcome remains in-market workouts starting in September. There had been discussions of a second bubble with those teams playing scrimmages.

Many of those teams want to get players back in their practice facility during a long hiatus.

The teams would test daily, have one week of individual workouts, two weeks of group practices and one hour of five-on-five per day.

Warriors Likely To Select Anthony Edwards If They Win Lottery

Aug 14, 2020 8:03 AM

The Golden State Warriors will likely select Anthony Edwards should they win the draft lottery and secure the No. 1 pick.

A source says Edwards is one of the few players available in this draft who can contribute immediately while also having the upside to develop into a franchise caliber player in the future.

The Warriors have a 14 percent chance of getting the top pick with a floor of No. 5. The Warriors could select the same player at No. 5 that they would target at No. 2.

According to league sources, Israeli small forward Deni Avdija, Iowa State point guard Tyrese Haliburton, Florida State shooting guard Devin Vassell and Auburn small forward Isaac Okoro are among the players Golden State would consider in that range.

“I don’t expect the Warriors to have the same draft board as a lot of other teams,” said a Western Conference scout.

Stephen Curry: It's On Us To Use This Time Wisely

Aug 11, 2020 8:01 AM

Stephen Curry is adamant that the Golden State Warriors are the one team that will benefit from going so long without playing a meaningful game.

The Warriors are one of the eight teams that weren't invited to Orlando for the NBA's restart, but they have a very different roster makeup than the other seven teams. Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are all in their 30s now and went to The Finals in five straight seasons.

“Our roster kind of speaks for itself in terms of what me, Klay and Draymond have been through, and what we’ve got left in the tank,” Curry said. “But it’s on us to use this time wisely. It’s just unchartered territory, whether you’re in the bubble or not.”

Draymond Green To Be Fined $50,000 For Devin Booker Comments

Aug 9, 2020 12:20 PM

Draymond Green will be fined $50,000 for violating the league's anti-tampering rule for his comments he made on "Inside the NBA" about Devin Booker.

"It's great to see Book playing well and Phoenix playing well. But get my man out of Phoenix. It's not good for him, it's not good for his career. Sorry, Chuck, but they've got to get Book out of Phoenix. I need my man to go somewhere where he can play great basketball all the time and win because he's that type of player," said Green on the show.

"Maybe," responded Green when Ernie Johnson asked him if he was tampering.

Booker responded to Green's comments, saying that Suns fans deserved to see a winner.

"Since I've been in Phoenix, we haven't had the win success that we had, but the support's been there. And this is what we owe to the fans, we owe to the organization."

NBPA Won't Consider Sending Eight Non-Restart Teams To Orlando For Minicamp

Aug 9, 2020 1:01 PM

The NBPA has no interest in having the NBA send the eight teams left out of the original restart to Orlando for an offseason training camp once the first group of 22 games are eliminated, sources tell ESPN.

The concept is a non-starter for the union.

The only viable solution is for the NBA and NBPA to agree to voluntary workouts in the team facilities.

Several of the teams are frustrated and angry over how far they feel they're falling behind the teams in restart.

"We are looking at nine months between games now, and if the season is delayed, we are looking at possibly a full year between competitive games," one GM told ESPN on Friday. "That's unprecedented in the history of the sport. We deserve help here."
