Joel Embiid, Karl-Anthony Towns Suspended 2 Games Each For Altercation

Oct 31, 2019 10:53 PM

Joel Embiid and Karl-Anthony Towns were each suspended two games for their role in an altercation during the Philadelphia 76ers' 117-95 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Towns and Embiid were both ejected from the game.

Ben Simmons was not suspended as he was deemed to be a "peacemaker" who was breaking up the fight. The Wolves have disputed that claim

Wolves Dispute Ruling Ben Simmons Acted As 'Peacemaker'

Oct 31, 2019 11:12 AM

The Minnesota Timberwolves are disputing the ruling from game officials that Ben Simmons intervened in the scuffle between Joel Embiid and Karl-Anthony Towns as a "peacemaker."

Referee Mark Ayotte told a pool reporter Wednesday night that Simmons was "deemed a peacemaker" for an act that included him holding Towns to the floor.

Sources say the Wolves believe Simmons engaged Towns in a "dangerous chokehold."

Joel Embiid On Fight With Karl-Anthony Towns: 'I Like To Get In People's Minds'

Oct 31, 2019 2:41 AM

Joel Embiid and Karl-Anthony Towns were ejected for fighting during the third quarter of the Philadelphia 76ers' 117-95 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Embiid said after the game that he's in Towns' head.

"I felt like you could see a lot of things the previous three possessions in the post. I kind of got it the way I wanted to, and then -- I don't know, I guess that last possession, we got them to turn the ball over, and my hand was staying tangled up. And next thing I know, he's holding me; we're holding each other. But it's basketball. That's what I'm good at -- I like to get in people's minds," said Embiid, who added that he didn't expect to get suspended because he didn't throw a punch.

While Towns addressed the situation by saying that "it was a competitive game," Jeff Teague said that the fight showcased Towns' growth as a player.

"As you can see tonight, [Town's] got a lot of fight in him. Last year, I wouldn't say he wouldn't do that or he would've took it, but he's here to make a statement," said Teague.

76ers Claim Fans Were Removed For Disruption, Not Hong Kong Protest

Oct 9, 2019 3:32 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers claim they removed two fans from the stands for "their continuing disruption of the fan experience," but those fans insist they were kicked out for showing support for Hong Kong.

The 76ers and Wells Fargo Center released statements on Wednesday.

"At last evening's game, following multiple complaints from guests and verbal confrontations with others in attendance, two individuals were warned by Wells Fargo Center staff about their continuing disruption of the fan experience. Ultimately, the decision was made by Wells Fargo Center personnel to remove the guests from the premises, which was accomplished without incident," the 76ers said.

Tim Bontemps reports the 76ers were unaware of the incident until after the fans were ejected.

Joel Embiid Admits He Wishes Jimmy Butler Re-Signed With 76ers

Oct 3, 2019 8:25 PM

Joel Embiid admitted he wishes the Philadelphia 76ers would have been able to re-sign Jimmy Butler.

Butler played a big role in the 76ers reaching Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals and brought a unique skill-set to the team.

“It was a big loss because me and him, we got to the point where we were really close... we’re still close," said Embiid. "We talk a lot, that’s my guy, that’s my brother forever. I wish he was still on the team, because I feel like the relationship that I built with him could have gone a long way. When it was the fourth quarter, we knew the ball would either be in me or Jimmy’s hands. I knew I could count on him. This year it kind of changes around. Now other guys have to step up and I have to do more.”

The 76ers acquired Josh Richardson as part of a sign-and-trade involving Butler while also signing Al Horford and re-signing Tobias Harris.
