Kawhi Leonard Reportedly Talking To Other Stars About 2019 Free Agency Plans

Jul 18, 2018 6:00 PM

While Kawhi Leonard has been silent with the media, Bruce Arthur of the Toronto Star said on the Back To Back Podcast on Wednesday that he has been in conversations with other impending 2019 free agents about possibly playing together.

"One thing I was told last night is that Kawhi Leonard had already been planning out his free agency for next year and he had already been in contact with other star players in the league and saying 'Hey, where might you want to play with me? What are we looking at?'

"It wasn't just L.A. he was talking about," added Arthur. "Brooklyn was maybe somewhere. They're going to have a ton of cap space. That might have been a possibility.

"So Kawhi has already been thinking ahead to pairing up and playing at a highest level."

The 2019 free agent class includes Leonard, Kyrie Irving, Jimmy Butler, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant.

Blazers, Suns, Nuggets, Wizards Have Also Discussed Kawhi Leonard Trade With Spurs

Jul 17, 2018 4:25 PM

Kawhi Leonard is seriously considering attending USA Basketball national team's minicamp in Las Vegas next week. Leonard holds some enthusiasm for showcasing his revitalized health in the wake of the quad injury that has been at the center of discord between the Spurs and him, sources said.

Gregg Popovich will lead the camp in his role as national team coach.

Leonard continues to seek a trade from the San Antonio Spurs.

bidding war among the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers never materialized. The Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers, Toronto Raptors and Washington Wizards are among teams who've talked with the Spurs, league sources said.

The Celtics and 76ers appear to have lost traction in their appetite to trade for Leonard as they're well-positioned for the future regardless. The Lakers appear to be playing the longer game in trade talks.

The Spurs have yet to allow prospective trade partners to talk directly with Leonard or his reps.

Clippers Guarantee Milos Teodosic's $6.3M Contract For 18-19

Jul 16, 2018 9:23 AM

The Los Angeles Clippers will keep Milos Teodosic on his $6.3 million player option.

The Clippers had the ability to waive Teodosic before Sunday with only $2.1 million guaranteed.

Teodosic, 31, played 45 games last season after coming over from Europe, averaging 9.5 points and 4.6 assists in 25.2 minutes. He shot 41.9% from the field, 37.9% on threes.

The Clippers have eight guards under contract, which could mean a trade will happen before the start of the season.

Spurs Plan On Reaching Out To Kawhi Leonard Once Trade Is Close

Jul 13, 2018 4:02 PM

Cris Carter has consistently been a source of reliable news on the Kawhi Leonard situation this year. Carter was represented by Mitch Frankel, who is also representing Leonard.

This week, there have been reports and speculation of a possible trade of Leonard to the Toronto Raptors.

“Nothing’s changed from Kawhi’s side from these standpoints: He still wants to go to Los Angeles, and he’s still not interested in being rented out for one season, so that being Philadelphia, Boston, Toronto or any other team," said Carter on Friday. "The thing that we should know is San Antonio has been in contact with Kawhi and his people, and they’ve told them that if something was to get real, real close, we’ll reach out to you. Well, it’s in their best interest and smart to reach out to him, and typically the other team that’s involved in the trade would be granted permission to reach out to the player that’s being traded. None of those things happened yesterday.”

Earlier in the week, Carter said Gregg Popovich gave Leonard the indication he would trade him.

“Kawhi, in meeting with Pop, Pop gave him every indication that he was going to trade him and he was going to try to make Kawhi happy,” Carter reported on Tuesday. “I never said that before, because I was holding it until now. So, all these discussions about Kawhi going to the East, I believe Popovich is trying to accommodate Kawhi and trying to please him.”

76ers Considered Only East Team Kawhi Leonard Would Re-Sign With

Jul 7, 2018 5:21 PM

While the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers are Kawhi Leonard's preferred teams if he is traded by the San Antonio Spurs, he would consider the Philadelphia 76ers.

"I want to add clarity to that," said Chris Haynes on The Jump. "Los Angeles are his preferred destinations. He will consider Philly. That's the only Eastern Conference team he would consider if they're able to put a package together."

The Boston Celtics have interest in Leonard, but he reportedly doesn't have interest in re-signing with that franchise if he's traded there.

The 76ers are believed to be keeping Markelle Fultz off limits in trade talks with the Spurs.

Kawhi Leonard's Preference Between Lakers, Clippers Remains Disputed

Jul 5, 2018 9:29 PM

The preferred destination of Kawhi Leonard remains one of the most hotly contested subjects amongst well-regarded members of the media.

Shams Charania reported on The Herd on Tuesday that the Clippers remained in the picture for Leonard following the arrival of LeBron James with the Lakers.

In a podcast on Wednesday, Adrian Wojnarowski indicated that Leonard now finds the Clippers less appealing with James joining the Lakers as he wouldn't want to play for the less glamorous franchise in Los Angeles with the game's biggest star on the Lakers.

Michael C. Wright went in the opposite direction on Thursday to indicate that Leonard now prefers the Clippers over the Lakers.

"The Lakers are not Kawhi's preferred destination anymore," said Wright on the Back to Back Podcast. "He wants to go to the Clippers. He doesn't want to go be second fiddle to LeBron. That's what I was told and I was told by somebody who would know.

"Right now, the Clippers are where he wants to go.

"I talk to people within the Spurs organization and they're like 'Yeah, he wants to go to the Clippers but their assets are (expletive) at this point.'

"I almost think there probably is going to be a dark horse team that nobody expected to come in and pull off that trade for Kawhi."

Wright added that once James went to the Lakers, it was reported that Leonard was open to re-signing with the 76ers if he's traded there.
