B.J. Young Signing With Rockets' D-League Team After Interest From Lakers, 76ers

Oct 28, 2013 7:13 PM

Free agent guard B.J. Young – a recent release of the Rockets – will sign a deal with Houston’s D-League team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, a league source told RealGM.

Young was released by the Rockets early in training camp, but the former Arkansas standout received interest from the Los Angeles Lakers and Philadlephia 76ers before deciding to join the Rockets’ burgeoning pipeline of young talent, a league source said.

Daryl Morey has stockpiled several talented players to place into the Rockets’ developmental system, which will also include the recently waived Troy Daniels.

After averaging over 15 points and three assists in his sophomore season at the Unviersity of Arkansas, Young, 20, went undrafted in June’s NBA draft.

Young played for the Rockets in summer league, displaying moments of explosiveness averaging nearly 12 points on 51.6 percent shooting and two assists.

Turner On 76ers' Future: I'm Not A GM, I'm Going To Get Money Regardless

Oct 25, 2013 1:56 PM

Evan Turner is eligible for a contract extension with the Philadelphia 76ers, but a deal appears unlikely as the franchise undergoes a massive rebuild.

Turner was asked about his future with the 76ers on Friday.

"I'm not a GM," said Turner. "I'm going to get money regardless."

Turner figures to have an opportunity to have an extraordinarily high usage rate this season with the 76ers lacking depth.

76ers Release Royce White

The Philadelphia 76ers have released Royce White.

White was acquired from the Houston Rockets this offseason via trade.

White suffers from anxiety disorder and didn't play in the NBA at all last season after being a first round pick.

"Philly fans... you've been amazing! so much positivity," wrote White. "It was an honor to put on the red white & blue in front of you. Even just preseason!"

76ers Enter Season With 'Six NBA Players'

Oct 23, 2013 1:35 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers will start Michael Carter-Williams, Evan Turner, Thaddeus Young and Spencer Hawes, with Lavoy Allen coming off the bench.

But Brett Brown sees a lot of questions marks on his roster after that initial group of six.

"You have six NBA players and then you have a bunch of guys who are fighting for spots and want to be seen and need opportunity," said Brown.

The 76ers have injuries to Nerlens Noel, Kwame Brown and Arnett Moultrie, who all have guaranteed contracts.

Brown said high character will be the determining factor in deciding between two players who are close in talent.

"It's not even close," Brown said. "It has to be [that way]. Imagine going through the learning curve and the learning pains and, at times, some losses are going to be mounting up and mounting up and mounting up."

Nerlens Noel Unlikely To Play This Season

The Philadelphia 76ers may play the entire 13-14 season without Nerlens Noel.

Brett Brown said on Monday that Noel probably won't play this season.

Noel is returning from a torn ACL. Noel was widely expected to be the first overall pick before the injury, but fell to sixth overall.

Brett Brown: I Believed In Hinkie's Vision For 76ers, Support Of Ownership

Oct 21, 2013 1:08 PM

Brett Brown's first head coaching job is a less than ideal situation as the Philadelphia 76ers begin an aggressive rebuilding process.

The 76ers traded away their best player in Jrue Holiday before Brown was hired.

"I needed to feel good and secure that the ownership group was committed and had a plan, and Sam (Hinkie) was going to the be the architect of that plan, capable of delivering that plan," Brown said. "When he combines his obvious analytic background with some human things, you can make decisions about personnel. I believed in his vision. When you talked to the ownership group and you heard the level of patience that they're committed to, that they have traded away Holiday, that they're looking to build something big in this city."

"He has a workmanlike approach that's infectious," Hinkie said of Brown. "Regardless of what happens in today's practice, or what happened in yesterday's game, to show up to work the next day and get to work all over again. And he's also really inquisitive. He has strong beliefs about the way the game should be played, but he's also curious about the way that other coaches have chosen to play things. He takes an open-minded look at an out of bounds play from a FIBA game the night before. Or paying attention to a low level Division III game that happened to be on TV the night before."
