Draymond Green Strongly Expected To Re-Sign With Warriors

Jun 25, 2023 4:06 PM

With the Sacramento Kings opening up cap space on draft night, there was subsequent speculation that they could pursue Draymond Green in free agency. The Kings are in need of an upgrade on defense and have a hole at power forward, but Green would be a potentially awkward fit on offense next to Domantas Sabonis. Green and Sabonis are inconsistent perimeter shooters.

The Golden State Warriors, however, are confident that a multi-year deal is forthcoming.

Sources tell Marc Stein that the "popular current projection" for Green and the Warriors is a three-year deal.

Stein was also informed that "it would remain shocking in the extreme for Green to land elsewhere."

Jordan Poole Was Sometimes Off-Rhythm Within Golden State's Offense

Jun 23, 2023 5:06 PM

The Golden State Warriors traded Jordan Poole on the afternoon of the draft, which not only saves them money and eliminates an interpersonal distraction with Draymond Green, but it also may benefit their offense.

Poole is a talented shot creator, but his fit within Steve Kerr's offense was sometimes awkward.

"I had one Warriors' source tell me they don't just play chaos ball, they sort of play cadence ball," said Kirk Goldsberry on the Zach Lowe Podcast. "It looks chaotic, but there's a cadence. There's a heartbeat to that jazzy sort of motion that they have.

"Chris Paul is smart enough to slide in there.

"One of my Warriors' friends told me that at times Jordan Poole was just off-rhythm with what they were trying to do. He was taking one or two too many dribbles. He wasn't in the right place. Players were frustrated. You have to be a high IQ, sort of selfless basketball player to fit in to what Steve Kerr has engineered there."

Warriors Also Held Trade Talks On Jordan Poole With Spurs, Celtics

Jun 23, 2023 11:29 AM

Before their trade with the Washington Wizards for Chris Paul, the Golden State Warriors held Jordan Poole talks with the San Antonio Spurs and Boston Celtics.

The Spurs registered interest in Poole, but never made a significant offer.

The Warriors and Celtics discussed a deal before they pivoted to a deal with the Wizards and Memphis Grizzlies in which they sent out Marcus Smart and acquired Kristaps Porzinigs.

The Warriors signed Poole to a four-year, $128 million contract extension last October in the immediate aftermath of him being punched in the face by Draymond Green. The NBA's new more punitive collective bargaining agreement changed the calculus for whether the Warriors could afford to keep Poole in addition to Stephen Curry, Green, Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins.

Warriors Acquire Chris Paul From Wizards For Jordan Poole

Jun 22, 2023 3:13 PM

The Golden State Warriors have agreed upon a trade with the Washington Wizards to acquire Chris Paul for Jordan Poole. The Warriors will also second a top-20 protected first round pick in 2030, a second rounder in 2027 and Ryan Rollins.

Poole is entering Year 1 of a deal worth up to $140 million over four seasons.

The Wizards agreed to acquire Paul from the Phoenix Suns as part of their Bradley Beal trade, but had spent the past few days trying to reroute him to a third team.

Paul is on a $30.8 million contract this season and a $30.0 million deal for 24-25 that is fully non-guaranteed.

According to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, the Warriors will not waive Paul.
