Kings Seek Cohesion To Take Next Step

Jul 28, 2012 10:30 AM

The big issue for the Kings entering the 12-13 season is whether they can find cohesion.

Sacramento re-sign Jason Thompson as a piece that won't need to score to impact the game.

"The big opportunity for our team, Jason along with the rest of his teammates is how much more cohesive they can become as a group and making each other better when they play," said Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie.

Tony Mitchell In Line For Training Camp Invite From Kings

Jul 20, 2012 11:03 AM

Tony Mitchell, an undrafted small forward out of Alabama, impressed with his athleticism and activity during summer league play with the Kings.

"Mitchell kind of separated himself a little bit," Keith Smart said. "He has the right size as a small forward. Obviously, we have a ton of players at that position that he plays, but nevertheless he's not a guy you take off your radar because you see the size.

"A long athletic player that can be physical, and I like the way he attacks the rim."

Mitchell averaged 11.4 points on 47.9 percent shooting over the course of five summer league games in Las Vegas.

"He was probably my most consistent player," said summer league co-head coach Alex English."He played (well) on both ends."

Thomas Robinson Struggling To Score Inside, Attempting Too Many Jumpshots

Jul 19, 2012 10:50 AM

Thomas Robinson is shooting just 32 percent (16-of-50) through four summer league games with the Kings.

"I think he's going to get a rude awakening in the post if he keeps turning around and shooting jump shots," said Kings summer league co-head coach Alex English. "I think his value is facing a guy up and taking him to the basket.

"The guys in the NBA are very long. You can see Ed Davis, he's a very long guy. And to turn around and take a jump shot, you've got to have something more. You've got to attack him at the rim."

Robinson dismissed the idea that he’s struggling to score against bigger defenders.

"No, the size is not affecting me," Robinson said. "Just the pace of the game."

Kings Want Fredette To Avoid Over-Dribbling, Make Better Decisions

Jul 19, 2012 10:49 AM

Jimmer Fredette  shot 5-for-17 from the floor in the Kings' 96-89 summer league loss to Toronto on Wednesday.

"I would like to see him move the ball more," said Kings summer league co-head coach Alex English. "When he gets in trouble, if it's not there, you've got to move the ball. Sometimes you have to move the ball before the trouble happens. It's a learning experience, and I think he learned something else today."

Fredette was repeatedly forced into tough shots and committed two turnovers against the Raptors.

"You have to determine where the trouble spots are and what defense they are playing on you, and how you can effectively beat it," Fredette said. "That's something you have to learn and adjust to."
